(This totally wasn't a cover for India to take their nukes, no, not at all.) Though India didn't directly intervene initially, Kansas secured an alliance with India early on, and it ended up briefly having Indian troops stationed throughout the country, along with most of the other countries marked as Indian allies on the map. It was less fending off attacks from its neighbors and more that everybody else was preoccupied with their own affairs because of how messy the fall of the United States was- Colorado had stabilized itself but lacked the manpower to invade Kansas, Nebraska was having a hard enough time holding itself together thanks to Soviet/Chinese-sponsored communist uprisings (which Kansas was also having problems with), Missouri was preoccupied fending off the Great Lakes Republic and the Commonwealth of America (though it still called itself the United States then), and Texas was already overstretched occupying New Mexico and Oklahoma (which had been invaded at the whim of the state governor, who made himself a dictator after the fall of the USA).
